The Slovenian Philharmonic Brass Ensamble (known as TASF) was created in 2002 on the initiative of brass players from the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra in a desire to make artistic progress, which is best achieved precisely through performing chamber music. From the very beginning, the ensemble has performed the repertoire of brass arrangements from various stylistic periods, as well as original compositions for brass.

In the course of its work, the ensemble has completed a series of successful projects, and in the 2015/2016 season it built upon this work with its first independent cycle of three concerts in the Marjan Kozina Hall of the Slovenian Philharmonic. Since its inception, the ensemble has performed regularly throughout Slovenia, as well as for Slovenians living in the Italian border regions within the framework of the contemporary music festival Kogoj Days. It also collaborates in the Slowind Festival and, with the support of the Society of Slovene Composers, is active in commissioning and premiering new works.

To date, the ensemble has recorded three compact discs: TASF with Slovene Composers, which was released by the Society of Slovene Composers; Brilliant Baroque, released by the Slovenian Philharmonic; and the musical fairy tale The Ugly Duckling by composer Nina Šenk with guest narrator Lucija Ćirović, which was released by RTV Slovenia’s ZKP Publishing.

In recent years, TASF has realised a number of resounding projects, of which particular mention should be made of a concert with the versatile trumpet virtuoso Allen Vizzutti as guest soloist in 2012; an original  project by composer and conductor Lojze Kranjčan in 2013; a Gala Concert and Brass Week led by the legendary Roger Bob in 2015; and the Show-Off gala concert with solo trumpeter Reinhold Friedrich in 2016. The peaks of the 2016/17 season are a concert with the Slovenian Philharmonic Choir, the preparation of an original project for children featuring the musical fairy tale The Ugly Ducking, and a Gala Concert to mark the fifteenth anniversary of the founding of the ensemble.

For the ensemble, working with eminent artists and being warmly received by the audience represent significant acknowledgement, as well as being an exceptional incentive to continue with their work.
