_______
We will become familiar with Matthias Pintscher both as a conductor and a composer - Toward Osiris is one of four short compositions composed on a commission from the Berlin Philharmonic, intended for performance alongside Holst’s Planets.
Composed in haste just a few days before his wedding, Aleksander Skrjabin’s Piano Concerto does not demonstrate the characteristics typical of the composer’s future musical philosophy and language. In terms of form, harmony and thematic material, this three movement composition, composed under the influence of Chopin’s music, is very conventional for a work composed in the 1940s.
Countless pages have been written about Beethoven’s Eroica and its role in the history of music. Here the words of Hector Berlioz will suffice: "The Eroica is so powerful in conception and execution, its style is so compact and constantly enthusing, its form is so poetic, that we can only compare it with the greatest works of its creator."
