On the awarding of the Prešeren Fund Prize in 2009 it was written that Nenad Firšt is a composer "who in a contemporary music culture of the rapidly forgotten avoids the pitfalls of instant oblivion with a refined creative stance, anchored in the passion of music making." For our orchestra he will write a new composition.
It is interesting that despite being an internationally renowned violinist, concert pianist and first-rate conductor, George Enesco’s only concertante composition was written for cello. The Symphonie Concertante was composed in 1901 and dedicated to the French virtuoso Joseph Salmon, who gave the work its premiere performance in Paris in 1909, conducted by the composer.
The Third Symphony was actually the last of the four symphonies written by Schumann. It was composed in Düsseldorf, and although the composer did mention that the composition "here and there reflects certain local colouring" the nickname The Rhine was most likely yet another "contribution" by the publisher Fritz Simrock.
