Lucijan Marija Škerjanc made a significant mark on Slovenian musical creativity of the 20th century. His opus – both in notes and words – is extensive; through it speaks a composer, a pedagogue, a conductor, a pianist, a music writer, etc.
We will mark the 110th anniversary of the birth of this former director of the Slovenian Philharmonic (between 1950 and 1955) with the performance of two works. The cantata A Wreath of Sonnets is one of the central and formally most perfected musical settings of the texts of Slovenia’s greatest poet, Dr France Prešeren. The Concerto for Harp and Orchestra is one of a small number of Slovenian concertante works for this instrument and represents a valuable contribution to the treasure trove of Slovenian music.
