In the Blue Subscription Series we will also pay tribute to the 100th anniversary of the birth of composer, pianist, pedagogue, music writer and former director of our foundation, Marijan Lipovšek - on this occasion with a performance of his Rhapsody for violin and orchestra.
Brahms’s Violin Concerto was one of the great concertos dedicated to the virtuoso Joseph Joachim. Joachim also advised Brahms on the design of the solo part, wrote the entire cadenza and gave the concerto its premiere performance in Leipzig on 1 January 1879 under the baton of the composer.
For many years, Boris L. Pasternak cherished a lively recollection of the emergence of Scriabin’s Third Symphony: “Like the sun and the shade that speckle the forest; like the birds who sing and flit from branch to branch; such were the fragments of The Divine Poem that wafted up from the piano in the neighbouring cottage then fluttered and whirled through the air. My God, what music that was!”
