With the Seven Miniatures for Strings we will honour yet another distinguished jubilee – 100 years since the birth of Marjan Lipovšek, former director and honorary member of the Slovenian Philharmonic.
Bartók’s Second Piano Concerto, composed in 1930-31, was first on the programme of our orchestra way back in 1959, and since then has not been heard in a subscription series concert.
On listening to Beethoven’s much loved Fifth Symphony we often ask ourselves whether that which the composer confided in his friend Schindler is in fact true, namely that the work represents "fate knocking at the door!".
