After taking diplomas in church music and organ at the University College of Music in Munich (Germany), Steffen Schreyer went to Stockholm (Sweden) for his post-gradual studies in choir conducting for Prof. Anders Eby at the Royal College of Music. He achieved a two-year scholarship for post-graduates by the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) and together with his diploma in 1997 he was honoured by the very seldom given “belöningsjeton” – the medal of the Musical Academy of Sweden for outstanding merits, which was awarded to a conductor for the first time.
During the six years he spent in Stockholm, he has freelanced as choir conductor with the Swedish Radio Choir, the Eric Ericson Chamber Choir and others, later in Germany with the WDR Radio Choir Cologne, the NDR Radio Choir Hamburg etc.
From 2001 until 2007 Steffen Schreyer held a professor’s chair in choir conducting at the Catholic College of Church Music St. Gregorius in Aachen (Germany). In 2001 he also founded the children’s choir “Kinderchor St. Gregorius Aachen” that in 2007 and 2008 achieved the first prices of their category in the International Choir Competitions of Linz and Bratislava.
Some years ago Steffen Schreyer even founded a professional choir “The European Vocal Soloists” composed of singers from Scandinavia, Great Britain as well as from Middle and East Europe. In October 2007 Steffen Schreyer achieved the 2nd price in the International Competition for Choir Conductors “Mariele Ventre” in Bologna.
In March 2009 he started working as choir master at the cathedral of Konstanz (Germany) and became chief conductor of the Slovenian Chamber Choir.
